Alexander Wang for Balenciaga

With the news of Nicolas Ghesquiere departure from Balenciaga all eyes where on who was going to be his successor. Today it was announced that 28 year old American designer Alexander Wang would follow in Ghesquiere's  footsteps.

Alexander Wang S/S 13

Whilst many are sceptical as to whether or not Alexander Wang is well suited for the role I for one think the young designer will do justice to the role. I find Alexander Wang very inspiring and I do aspire to be like him. His collections for his own brand have always had that edge to them (if you look at the pattern cutting) yet still manage to have a commercial viability.

After dropping out of fashion school, Parsons School of Art and Design to be exact, Alexander Wang set up his own label at the young age of 23 and has not looked back since. He has gone to create an empire which see's a diffusion line, 12 stores and a turnover of $25 billion (at the age of 25!) and not to mention the likes of Michelle Obama, Azealia Banks, Gwyneth Paltrow all supporting his brand.

If someone can achieve all that in a few years one can only imagine what he will be able to do for Balenciaga.

Whilst Ghesquire brought a edginess to Balenciaga, Wang will most probably bring a more commercial angle to the brand which might not be a bad thing. One thing is for certain all eyes will be carefully watching what Wang will do for Balenciaga. We do know his fashionable followers, on his speed dial including models Erin Wasson and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, will certainly be following him and supporting what he does for Balenciaga.

So Stylista's what do you think on Wang's new role? Leave your comments below.
